Common Questions

How does the doctor keep up-to-date on all of the current techniques and materials?

At Jordan Family Dentistry, we are committed to continuing education. In fact, Dr. Andrew Jordan earned an M.A.G.D. degree, which was awarded after 4,000 hours of postgraduate training in the American Academy of General Dentistry.

"Doctors, hygienists and staff successfully complete an extensive amount of training and continuing education each and every year in both clinical and clerical aspects of dentistry which keeps them abreast of all the new technologies" says Dr. Arthur Jordan. "Each of us complete at least 20 hours of continuing education each year, from clinical issues to software to the latest techniques."

As a team and as individuals, our office makes it our responsibility to stay current on the latest techniques and materials available.

Can you show me what my smile will look like ahead of time with imaging software?

Because it is our goal to stay abreast of current technology, we have intraoral cameras that not only allow you to see the inside of your mouth, but an imaging system that allows our patients to visualize the end results of cosmetic and restorative work. By taking photos of your current smile and keying additional information into the computer, we can generate a graphic image that accurately demonstrates how your procedure will improve your smile.

How do I know when it's time to come in for a checkup?

Because dental health is important to your overall health, adults typically benefit from a professional cleaning and checkup every six months. While twice daily brushing and flossing certainly help maintain a healthy mouth, it is wise to check for plaque that hardens into tartar and can result in gum disease. Tartar requires professional cleaning to remove, and is the best way to prevent gum disease.

Do you accept my insurance plan?

We accept cash, checks, all major credit cards and most dental insurance plans. Also, we'll file your insurance forms as a courtesy to you. It is important, however, that you read your policy so you understand the benefits you're entitled to, as the success of your dental insurance depends on your full understanding and cooperation in filing claims. Once you have decided on the best method, it will take from 2-4 weeks of simple treatments to whiten your smile.

My gums bleed after I brush. Is this something to be concerned about?

Gums that bleed after brushing may or may not require attention, depending on the source of the problem. Bleeding gums can be caused by a number of things, including improper, rough scrubbing, using a hard-bristled toothbrush instead of a soft one, plaque and/or tartar build-up below the gum line, or gum sensitivity due to gingivitis or periodontal disease. If this problem persists despite proper brushing and flossing or occurs every time you brush your teeth, contact our office for an appointment to evaluate the problem.

I want my front teeth to look better, but I do not want to wear braces. What would you recommend?

Depending on your individual situation, there are a number of options available to improve the look of your front teeth without braces. Often, slightly crooked or unevenly worn teeth can gain a bright, uniform look with a bit of reshaping and porcelain veneers. To discuss your individual situation and the options available, please contact our office for an appointment. We'll be happy to discuss the option that suits your individual needs with you. At Jordan Family Dentistry our doctors have both completed many beautiful “dental makeovers” and we would be more than happy to schedule you for a consultation to let you view some of these completed cases.
